Now more than ever a helping hand is needed. Regardless of your politics we can all agree that times are tough in almost every business and every home in America.
![]() One of those hardest hit by this financial crisis is the charity world. Families and businesses that usually donate to charities this time of year are having to back off of their commitments. After meeting with many who specialize in the philanthropic world we’ve found that their available funds are down as much as 80%. Think about that amount for a moment. Let’s put a number on that. If you usually donated 100 dollars, you’re now only able to donate 20 dollars. While it’s understandable, it doesn’t lighten the load of the charities simply because they’re able to sympathize. Recently Castro Financial Group was able to come to the aid of a charity in this very situation. A local charity called Temecula Valley People Helping People found themselves without their financial backing two weeks before Thanksgiving. Through a series of frantic phone calls and fancy footwork we were able to step in and not only increase their anticipated donation but also expedite the delivery of food for over 15,000 residents in the Temcula valley. Interestingly after we were able to help, the original financial backers were able to find a sum to donate as well after all. Sometimes hurdles we deem insurmountable are actually possible. A gentle push in the right direction or some assistance carrying the workload is sometimes all it takes to help someone in need. It’s true that times are tough all over, but you can always do more than you think you can. It was a true blessing to be able to help on such a grand scale. This is not meant to self-congratulate but rather to encourage others to do all they can and to celebrate the amazing job of Denny Mighell the head of Temecula Valley People Helping People. One of the benefits of living in a relatively small community is that you can see results of your involvement right away. For instance you can see your tax dollars at work maintaining the grass on the medians of your town’s roadways and creating parks to defuse the urban sprawl. In our case we went from writing a check one day to watching 1000’s of turkeys getting into the hands of families in need the next. Please remember that people need a helping hand all year round, not just during the holidays. To all of those who continue to do well despite the financial hardships of others, I encourage you to step up and service your community any way you’re able. We’ve all been down, and it’s easier to get back up with a helping hand. |
